Are surge vessels subject to insurance inspections?
Yes.
Under PED regulations, all pressure vessels, surge, DAF, saturator, etc are subject to regular inspections by a UKAS approved third party inspector. Such inspections consist of both “working” and “thorough” inspections.
Although inspection intervals vary slightly between different insurance company’s, the “working” inspection is usually annual while the “thorough” is anything between 3 – 5 years depending on vessel material/age/condition etc. The exact period for the “thorough” inspection is dependent entirely on the vessel condition, and will be specified by the insurance inspector carrying out the inspection.
